Local School Council 2012 Election - April 19, 2012

Sophomore Political Fair 2012
When: February 22, 2012 Where: Marshall's Ambercrombie Room 129 Time: 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm Sophomore Students will host a political fair and will showcase information about President Barack Obama, the republican candidates, and issues impacting the 2012 general election. Come out and enjoy the hard work that students have undergone in order to educate and inform the community about the very important aspects of this election year. |

Congratulations Marshall Chess Team!!
Under the leadership of Mr. Ocol, the Chess Team placed 5th in their division (over 20 school) and 30th overall (out of over 125 schools) at the IHSA State Chess Finals Tournament, the biggest high school class tournament in the USA, held this past weekend down in Peoria. Keep us the great work! Marshawn Richards, senior and straight A student, won the prestigious IHSA State Chess Medal, the 5th Marshall Student to win a State Chess Medal in Marshall's History. |

Watch for Marshall's School Based Health Clinic
Soon To Come....... The school based clinic will provide mental and healthcare services. In collaboration with Circle Family Health Care Network, Marshall will soon offer patient-centered programs and services dedicated to assessing your medical, nutritional, physical, psychosocial and emotional needs. Health Care Programs offering primary care services which serve you with respect; treat the whole person, and listen to your unique concerns. |

Afterschool Tutoring/Homework Center
Parents/guardians, if you know your student is failing or suspect as much, please encourage your student to attend The Homework Center. The parent portal is available to track your child’s grades (counselors can assist you to set up your account.) The Homework Center will occur on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school, from 2:45 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. The location is Marshall’s library on the second floor. Pathway to Accelerated Student Success (PASS) Program at Marshall
Work your way back through a new program from the Chicago Public Schools that combines small-group instruction and online coursework and provides students with valuable life skills and work-force training at Marshall High School. PASS will reduce dropout rates and increase dropout re-entry and retention by providing a comprehensive and integrated system of interventions and supports in four basic domains: identification and diagnosis, effective and relevant instruction; behavioral interventions and social supports; and student, family, and community involvement. Who Is the CITY YEAR TEAM at Marshall?
The City Year team at Marshall works specifically with freshmen students in the core classes of Algebra, Biology, English & World Studies, providing in-classroom support for teachers and differentiated instruction for students, with one corps member present per class period. We also support school-run initiatives to improve behavior and attendance, lead after school clubs, and host several of our own school-wide activities and events such as rallies, contests, & family engagement nights throughout the year. GREEN LUNGS 2011 Program at Marshall Metro
Students participating in an After School Matters program at Marshall High School called Green Lungs 2011 are nearing completion of a food stand. This food stand has features that are sustainable such as recycled concrete, rain water catchment, natural ventilation and a durable metal roof. Future additions may include living wall panels and a solar electrical energy demonstration unit. Food that will be distributed at the food stand will be grown only a few steps away. Sophomore Report Card Pick-Up Night
Parents/Guardians of Sophomore Students must pick up Sophomore Report Cards February 1, 2012 here at Marshall High School from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in Room 129. No Sophomore Student will receive his or her report card during the school day this Wednesday. |

Marshall's Horticultural Team Wins 3rd Place in the 55th Annual Mayor's Landscape Awards
Congratulations! The JMMHS' Garden has been awarded 3rd Place in the Schools - Region 2 Category of the 55th Annual Mayor's Landscape Awards Program. The effort they have given through tending our landscape represents a significant commitment to our neighborhood and the whole city. Gardens and other green spaces help improve air quality, utilize rainwater and make Chicago a beautiful place to live. Congratulations again on this great achievement! |
